Become a Fitness Instructor in the UK – Discover How#

With a growing number of people choosing to pay close attention to their health, fitness instructors are in demand across the country. Whether you enjoy a particular fitness niche, or fitness overall, choosing to become a fitness instructor is a great way to earn money and take advantage of flexible working conditions.

What is a Fitness Instructor?

A fitness instructor is an individual who teaches fitness classes, provides personal training sessions, and offers basic nutritional guidance. Fitness instructors work in gyms, their own studios, or the homes of clients. As an instructor, you can choose to specialize. For example, you may want to teach pre-natal fitness to keep pregnant women healthy. Alternatively, you can choose to engage in a broad spectrum of fitness techniques. As a fitness instructor, you need to be qualified. Being qualified allows you to ensure you are teaching your clients in a way that does not cause them physical damage. What Training do Fitness Instructors Need?

Fitness instructors can choose to train at their own pace, or they can train with a college. Training with a college allows you to get face-to-face instruction, which is useful for those who need extra guidance. Alternatively, you can choose to train as a fitness instructor from home. Home-based fitness instructor training still requires assessment, but it is useful for those who have other commitments, such as work or a family. As an instructor, you learn about biology and a little nutrition.

What Are the Working Conditions for Fitness Instructors Like? You typically have three options when it comes to working venues: gyms, your own studio, or in the homes of clients. Working in a gym usually means teaching particular classes, and providing guidance to clients on a one-to-one basis. While working for a gym, you get paid a set amount, but you do have the assurance of guaranteed work under a large brand. If you have good business acumen, you can begin developing your own studio. Having your own studio space comes with overheads, but you do control your earnings, marketing, and schedule. Working as a freelance instructor can mean going to the homes of clients on a one-to-one basis, or you can deliver classes in community center; such as the YMCA.

How Much Can Fitness Instructors Earn?

At the lower end of the scale, fitness instructors earn around 18,000. These earnings reflect entry-level wages, which newcomers attract while they are building a client base. As your skills improve and the number of clients you attract grows, you may earn the median, which is 30,000. If you become a fitness instructor and reach the top of your game, you may earn in excess of 60,000. Higher earnings often apply to those working in highly-sought niche areas, such as hot yoga, pregnancy Pilates, and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). It is also worth bearing in mind that instructors in densely populated areas have better earnings, as there are more clients available to train.

Smart Goalsthe Keys To Fitness Motivation

Many people find that the most difficult part of their fitness program is sticking with it. Often we drift from program to program, becoming passionately dedicated to step classes one month, then Pilates or yoga the next. Sometimes we drop fitness altogether, opting for life back on the couch.

The problem is motivation. The core of any personal fitness program is staying interested and, as a fitness instructor, my role is to keep my participants coming back for more. If I dont, then Im out of a job. The law to which all fitness instructors conform states: No participants; no classes. No classes; no money.

Motivating participants means goal setting. I know what youre thinking. Youre thinking, Great! Hes going to tell me if I set a goal to become a power lifter, Im going to stay true to a fitness program forever. Nothing could be further from the truth. A broad goal like becoming a power lifter doesnt take into account specifics such as how to train, when or where to train, or how to tell when its time to enter competition. It leaves no room for evaluation.

Its not a SMART goal. A SMART goal is Specific, Measurable, Action-oriented, Realistic, and Time-bound.

1. Goals Need to be Specific
A specific goal is one that takes a component of the overall goal and states it. For a power lifter, it may involve improving muscle endurance, stance, and strategy. In other words, its a set of clearly defined goals rather than one broad one.

2. Goals Need to be Measurable
A measurable goal could refer to time, distance, times per week, numbers of repetitions, or mass. If your goal is to do more squats, your goal would state that you want to be able to squat with 120 pounds of weight.

3. Goals Need to be Action-oriented
This part means that youre going to go to the gym and use the squat rack to carry out your goal four times per week.

4. Goals Need to be Realistic
Once you begin weightlifting, youll become familiar with the weights and what your limits might be. You can develop a strategy to gradually increase the weights until you reach your goal.

5. Goals Need to be Time-bound
How long will it take to reach your goal? Is this something you can do in six weeks or will it take six months? Identify your timeline.

Using the SMART criteria, you can generate a SMART goal to improve muscular endurance. It might read: Within 30 days, I will increase my squat resistance on the squat rack from 100 to 120 pounds by training four days per week and increasing my weight by five pounds per week.

If at the end of 30 days you reach your goal, evaluate how this fits in with your overall fitness goal of becoming a power lifter. You may wish to set a new or different goal. If you didnt reach it, ask whether there might be a reason. Perhaps you had the flu, or the goal wasnt as realistic as you thought. Formulate a new goal and time interval.

SMART goals can be useful in many aspects of life that involve motivationnot just fitness. Use SMART goals in your relationships, for career change or advancement, and to improve eating habits. Any aspect of life that requires motivation is open to the application of SMART goals.

How to Use a Treadmill and Stay Motivated

Treadmills are the ubiquitous piece of fitness equipment-they seem to be everywhere. Typically, when an exerciser buys an at home piece of cardio equipment, they opt for the treadmill-which is a great idea, if you use it. However, it is easy to grow bored and find yourself using it as a clothes rack.

In order to keep yourself motivated and on that treadmill, there are some things you can do. First, make sure to choose the home treadmill that best suits your needs. There are folding treadmills that save space and, obviously, fold up out of the way when not in use. If you don’t have a room devoted solely to working out, this may be a good option for you. After all, these machines can take up a lot of room in a bedroom or living room. Or, you may be a person who likes a lot of upgrades and gadgets. If so, look for one of the newer models that offer different preprogrammed workouts, such as hill climbs or intervals. There are even treadmills out now that have video monitors for you to watch that show outdoor scenes as you walk or run. These city scenes, beach scenes, wooded climbs, etc serve to motivate and keep the exerciser interested. Some of these video monitors include a virtual trainer that will provide motivation as you walk or run, updating you on your progress as you go and offering encouragement as you near your goals.

Additionally there are some things you can do to help yourself stay motivated while working out. The first thing you should do is write down your goals and chart your progress as you make your way towards those goals. Vary your workouts. One day, plan to do sprints, with brief intervals in between to let the heart rate come down. Another day, increase your incline and really work the muscles in your legs. Variety is the key-it will help you find gains in your workout and will keep you motivated.

The Importance Of Fitness And Nutrition In Our Lives

In recent years, people have started to focus more on health and overall well being. Diets, slimming products and different new age regimens are now flooding the health and wellness industry that it is now being considered as a multimillion giant, instead of the obscure field that it was a couple of decades back. And because there are new researches each year pointing to the strong relationship between fitness and nutrition, it simply cannot be ignored anymore. Here are some important points that you should remember on why it would be impossible to separate the two.

We judge the value of the food we eat each day for its taste value and nutritional significance. Since there are more people who value the taste factor over the nutrition factor, this has contributed greatly to the gradual rise on the obesity rate. We all know just how important good food is for our general well being and health, so its important for us to take note of the nutritional value of the food we consume. Whether we would like to admit it or not, calorie content, vitamins and minerals are things that we need to look into if we want our bodies to function properly. Knowing which types of food to eat is just one of the important things we need to be aware of if we want to be healthy.

Any health expert will tell you that a body will not be able to function on consuming healthy food alone, but it should also be trained and stimulated with regular physical activity. Fitness pertains to the activities which will be able to regularly work the muscles and get the heart rate pumping. It is as important as nutrition in the sense that it is also a vital part in having a healthy lifestyle, for without it, the body will not be able to know or feel the ultimate strength of its capabilities. And because nutrition can have an effect on your fitness levels, you need to make sure that you eat the right types of food so that you can manage your daily tasks.

Knowing just how fitness and nutrition play equal parts in the well being of the body is key, especially for those people who are in the constant struggle to lose weight. Just by choosing the right types of foods to eat, it will become easier to cut back on the calories that do not turn into energy, that energy that is not being spent by the body through a fitness routine. Nutrition and fitness also play a big part in slowing down or stimulating a persons metabolism rate.

If you want to have a healthy lifestyle and be able to cope with stress and sicknesses more effectively, then always keep in mind why fitness and nutrition is important in our lives. They are both important factors for us to keep and maintain our bodies in the prime of health. Dont allow yourself to have one without the other.
